Reiki
Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) means Universal Energy in Japanese where this healing art originates. Energy is transmitted through the hands of the therapist to the client and can benefit us on all levels: physical, emotional and spiritual.
For a healthy person, Reiki can be used to relieve stress, promote deep relaxation and rejuvenation. It can also be helpful in aiding the healing of illness as it helps return the individual to a state of balance. Reiki will always work for the greatest and highest good of the receiver - the therapist does not control the energy, but merely works as a channel to harness and direct the energy.
Reiki is not a belief system or religion, and the receiver does not even have to believe in the therapy for it to work! It is suitable for everyone, the young and elderly, pregnant ladies and even animals (and plants!). Any living thing can benefit from Reiki.
A full Reiki treatment lasts for 1hr and 15 mins. The client remains fully clothed throughout the treatment (removing shoes), and will lay on the treatment couch (or sit in a chair if this is more comfortable). I encourage my clients to get comfy and close their eyes and relax. My hands are then placed in a sequence of positions on the body starting with the head area, then moving down the body, holding each position for around 5 minutes (sometime longer, sometimes less, the energy dictates this). Then I ask the client to turn over, and work on the back of the body in exactly the same way.
A full treatment lasts 1 hour 15 mins, with a short ten minute initial consultation being required for the first visit. A course of consequetive treatments (4 or 5) is by far the best way to experience Reiki, which is why I offer courses of treatment at reduced rates for block booking.
